I have been having fun with a new technique... Discharging or Reversing.  I start with a Black tee, tie it up and remove color in a pattern and then sometimes I add color back in.  

I use Procion dyes which are professional strength commercial dyes, the colors stay bright for years.  I work with Gildan Ultra and Port & Company tees,  they are 6.1 oz, 100% pre-shrunk cotton.

I love to experiment with HWI... you tie the tee up in whatever design you like, then lay powdered dye on it, then use a sprayer with HOT water and then you spray the dye on the tee which then lets the dye run down into the tee where it is placed

Here is a Rainbow WigWag ZigZag tee, or close to it...  this one I placed the dye a little differently because I forgot to mark my lines on the bottom side, so when it came time to flip and add more dye, I had to just go for it as close as I could to matching it up.... and wow the results were awesome!!

I love the art of Tie-Dye ... to be able to just sit down at my table & fold up some tees ... sometimes they are done with a plan and other times they are Intentionally Random as is this one. It started out Bright Green, after it was tied up randomly, I removed some color and then added some color back in creating a ~ Unique McClellan Tee ✌️

So here is a design that was first create by Jenny R. while attempting to create a Peace Sign tee without watching my video like she usually does, Her result was awesome and I dubbed it to 'Huggable Peace Sign'. I told her I wanted to recreate it and she said to go for it.  I made one practice one and then Life happened and it got set down and buried for a year.  Then as I was looking to get back to videos, this one popped into mind, so I went looking for the info on it and discovered it had been done exactly one year from TODAY ... the first time I saw her design... So within an hour, I went LIVE on Youtube and created this tee.  It was a bit confusing as I was not really ready to do a video that day, let along a LIVE video ... so Anyways, I went on to make a second video  to compare the difference between the Huggable & Regular Peace Signs ... this time I did them on Tapestries to make it more clear.

I Love to put Black with the Rainbow, I think it makes the colors Brighter, even if it darkens them some... so I have been experimenting with the Midnight Rainbow Spiral for many years in several different ways. (Oh and when I say 'Midnight' ... that means I am using a lot of Black within the Tie-Dye 😉)

Hello, my name is Carl, aka MrTieDye. I am a Dye Artist and I love the medium of tie-dye.  I push the boundaries of tie-dye to places few people have seen.  I am constantly asked "how did you do THAT with tie-dye?"
I started twisting tees and splashing dye in August 2000 and quickly realized the unlimited potential of the tie-dye medium. I have experimented with many techniques of tie-dye as I explored its history. Now, along with my peers, I am boldly contributing to the future of this dynamic new face now emerging in the World of Art ~ Tie-Dye!
